HOW TO SPEND A DAY IN PORTOFINO

HOW TO SPEND A DAY IN PORTOFINO- MINI PORT GUIDE.

Over the last few years I have been beyond lucky enough to cruise around some of Italy’s best kept secrets. And with each visit, experiencing something new.

And now I want to help you plan the PERFECT day trip.

So what better port to start off with than perfect Portofino.

Oh beautiful, beautiful Portofino- the town that stole my heart. It is honestly my favourite place in the entire world.

It is tiny. It glistens. It is pure magic.

And there is so much to do and see.

Usually when on a cruise, you will arrive by tender boat, which is an experience in itself.

The views when you pull closer to the shore will take your breath away. A mini, colourful film set awaits your presence.

So here is how you can have the perfect day.

  1. MOOCH AROUND AND FEEL THE MAGIC.

For first timers you truly won’t be able to beat the magic of walking around and exploring the cobbled streets and bustling piazza. Grab a gelato, have a slice of pizza in the town square. Soak up EVERY but of that buzzing atmosphere. Then get more gelato and watch the world go by. People watching here is an event in itself. These huns get dressed up to the NINES.

2. BEACH DAY AT PARAGGI.

This summer we discovered a hidden gem called Paraggi Beach. It sits beneath a cliff and is a small cove of sparkling glittering beach. The easiest way to get there is by bus, which takes you along the cliff.

Italian beaches are renowned for their Lidos, which are essentially mini beach clubs. Usually you can gran a sun bed at a lido for around $30pp- however in Portofino they like to add a 0 to every number, so your day out can get seriously spenny. The famous Dolche and Gabbanah lido goes from $300pp.

Paraggi Beach is filled with these lidos, however in the middle there is a small, tiny section of sand with no beds. Blink and you will miss it. We dumped our bags, changed under a towel- always been a classy hun- and spent hours in the sea. Bucket loads of fun. And the cost? $0.

3. SANTA MARGHERITA

The town next to Portofino is called Santa Margherita. Another fun and bustling town. You can hop on a ferry from Portofino for around $20pp return. The views along the way are chefs kiss. Santa Margherita is great if you want to do some shopping without breaking the bank as it’s a lot lot cheaper than Portofino. Does it have Portofino’s magic? No. But still- a lovely place to experience for a few hours.

OTHER THINGS I WANT TO TRY AT MY NEXT VISIT

  • Renting a boat for a half day and experiencing Portofino by sea.
  • Lunch at the famous Belmont hotel rooftop.
  • Feeling like a true Italian A-lister- therefore I will have to save uo an entire year to get a sun bed at Dolche and Gabbanah beach club in Paraggi.

One thing is for sure- Portofino will always have my heart.

La Dolche Vita.
