Teddy’s Library! Our favourite children’s books!

Growing up my entire childhood revolved entirely around reading and story books. No matter what time or day you would always find me under a pile of books in a world of my own. My mum said I was a mix between Matilda and Belle and if I’m being honest I’m absolutely not okay that the Beast still hasn’t given me a section of Belles library yet. I think my total love of stories and books fuelled my imagination into over drive from when I was little and that is where I got my creativity from and is why I just ADORE writing!

(I don’t actually know if I’ve told any of you this yet but it is my biggest ever dream to write my own children’s story book. I already have the plot and characters worked out. The stories are being brought by Netflix by the way, and you’re ALL invited to the premiere!!!)

I knew the moment Teddy was growing in my tummy that I was going to share my passion for reading with him and it is my biggest wish that books will become such a huge part of his childhood too. I know at three months old he is still too young to understand all of the words and meaning, but that hasn’t stopped me buying him piles of books to soon devour and his little library is shaping up so very nicely. There is absolutely nothing I adore more than curling up with him at night and reading to him whilst he stares at the pictures in delight and I just can’t wait for him to actually be able to start dreaming of all the characters and different fantasy worlds and seeing his imagination grow.

So with that in mind I thought it might be fun to share with you our favourite books that will hopefully become a huge part of his childhood.

Hooray Heroes- ‘When Teddy Grows Up’.

I am so excited to share this beautiful and creative story book with you from the company Hooray Heroes.

The book is called ‘When Teddy Grows Up!’, and the entire story is based on the dad imagining what wonderful things their little ones are going to do when they get older. What I absolutely adore about this book is that every character has been personalised to represent our family. In this case the characters looks like a grown up Teddy and his daddy. I was very kindly gifted this book for Teddy to give his dad on his first Father’s day and it was just the most special moment seeing him receive it and well up imagining reading it to Teddy for years to come. It will be their special story forever!

Me and Wayne have always discussed that with Teddy we will never push him to do anything he doesn’t want to do. We want him to choose any path in life, which we will support one thousand percent. And I really think that this book with all its different fun career options will fuel Teddy’s imagination and excite him for the future and show him that the sky is the limit!

The stories and pictures of Teddy in different job scenarios are so bright, fun and animated and it makes me emotional knowing that this book will give him inspirational ideas for the future.

Big Dreams, Little People Collection.

Oh my goodness I absolutely adore the concept behind the ‘Big Dreams, Little People’ books. The basis of the collection is that each book tells the story of inspirational well known people around the world who have made a huge huge impact and achieved incredible things in their life. Yet the message is clear- each and every one of these wonderful people all started off as a child with a dream. How touching!

So far I have the Anne Frank, David Attenborough, Maya Angelou and Jane Austen stories and plan to build the collection along the years to continue to inspire Teddy!

The Beatrix Potter Collection.

When my sister brought me the classic Beatrix Potter collection for Christmas I actually cried (blame horrendous pregnancy hormones) and they now take pride of place on Teddy’s shelf! To me, the gorgeous tales of Peter Rabbit, Benjamin Bunny, Jemima Puddleduck and Mrs Tiggywinkle define my childhood and I grew up being obsessed with these delightful and kind animal characters. In this collection there are twenty two stories featuring a wonderful array of animal characters which I plan to read to Teddy a million and one times in the next few years.

The Tiger Who Came To Tea

This absolute classic was one of the first books I brought for Teddy when I was pregnant. I’m sure every single one of you know the plot, but for those of you who lived under a rock, it is the sweet and fun tale of a giant tiger who pays a little girl called Sophie a visit at her house and interrupts her evening and tea. The book is filled with gorgeous pictures and it is just a really innocent, simple and gorgeous read!

The Smeds and The Smoos

One of my favourite bloggers Angie Silverspoon recommended this book and I just knew the second I heard about the plot Teddy needed this immediately! The tale is based on two different families. One family is red and the other is blue. But because they are different they are not allowed to mix. However…plot twist…. one of the Smeds falls in love with one of the Smoos!!! The ending is just fabulous! I absolutely adore the vital message in this book which teaches children that it absolutely doesn’t matter where you come from all that matters is what is on the inside.

The Tales of Winnie The Pooh.

Growing up there was no character I adored more than Winnie The Pooh. The kindest, most loyal and happy little bear. Every single one of his stories warms my heart and always has such a lovely message behind it. Each and every character in 100 acre wood are so unique and special and I hope that Teddy adores them just as much as me. We actually live next to a forest and my greatest dream is to pretend to Teddy that the woods are where Winnie The Pooh and his lovely friends live and to always have great adventures in there together. We have around three of his stories so far, including this very special edition version, and my plan is to build and build this collection until his room is bursting with Winnie The Pooh.

So that’s it! But this is just the start of our every growing book pile and I would love it sooo much if you could all recommend to me your favourite stories for me and my little book worm. I’m forever buying and collecting more books and hope to add to this blog in a few months with some more fascinating tales and adventures!

Until next time… and they all lived happily every after…

Thank you for mentioning me! Teddy is just so so cute!!! We love lots of these books too! Now Oscar is crawling, he won’t always sit still to read a book but I sometimes read them to him while he wiggles around the floor. He really loves the touch and feel books like the “That’s not my puppy etc’ books.
